At the Open-Air Swimming Pool
around 1942, pen and brush drawing, 230 × 285 mm
An apparently carefree moment in a bad time. A surprising number of men are disporting themselves at the open-air pool. War has been raging for three years.
There is no trace of this in the picture. Only the woman in the foreground — the sole female bather — looks belligerent. Will the frail chap in the dressing gown let it come to a showdown, or get out of her way?
