Born in Istanbul in 1949, Ayşe Erkmen, first studied sculpture in her home town. Later a DAAD scholarship brought her to Berlin where she still lives. She has exhibited in the Venice and Istanbul Biennials, Skulptur Projekte Münster and the big, renowned museums across all continents. At Städelschule Frankfurt and Kunstakademie Münster she has educated two generations of young artists over all those years, some of them famous by now as well.
